If any, what are the negatives to redirecting mobile traffic via .htaccess?

Things like this:

- can this hurt your SEO?
- if you have redirected your mobile before, does it hurt your traffic trades at all?
- does mobile convert so bad that you'd consider it worthless to redirect?

thank you

Why would you want to redirect mobile traffic in the first place? If people surf on their iphone, they might not make purchases right away, but by offering some way of bookmarking, they could come back to it when they are home at their laptop or desktop. I see this as an opportunity to find additional bookmarkers thus boosting SE rankings.

I wouldnt re-direct but if you do make it a quick purchase site more formatted for mobile than say your average pay site...

About 15% of our traffic is mobile and much of it converts. I am trying to grow that traffic the most...

While mobile traffic isn't that huge yet as web ready phones get cheaper and iPads and Kindles catch on the mobile market is going to explode.

I don't really have any advice... but this thread just made me think

In a couple years we're all going to be fighting to get a piece of the mobile market, so now would be the best time to jump in and start targeting these people.
