View Full Version : Golf Clap
And I think I just had a gallery go live at "thehun" today.
This is a courtesy notification to let you know that your domain appears to be undergoing an attack and we were forced to block all requests to your site. This mitigation appears to have resolved any issue, however, if this attack reaches a level that continuously causes an issue for our other clients on this same shared server, we may be unable to continue to host it in our shared environment.
This change will revert at 4am CDT tomorrow morning during our firewall restart. If this is still happening at that time, we will update this ticket.

just out of curiosity, is your gallery heavy? i mean photos/movies/banner took how many mbytes?
they block you because hun deliver lots of traffic in short time and they think its somekind of attack or because you burned to much b/w?
anyway sorry to hear about your problems i think all of us been there at least once. me myself one gallery at hun cost once extra $240 and i earn $30 :(
Hi Druid,
The gallery is very basic and straightforward: 16 jpeg thumbs, 1 Sponsor Banner and 1 Recip to thehun.com
Hostgator was unable to elaborate on the nature of the supposed attack, but from sifting through the logs, signs point to it being just traffic. The open ticket arrived in my mailbox a little after 9am
From around 3am-7:45am servertime, my gallery was getting the bulk of the hits as you can see...

So, I'm waiting for a followup response to the open ticket that they self-initiated.
In the previous galleries I've submitted, these numbers generated here are comparable and I've not heard anything from Hostgator until this instance.
'Tis bittersweet. If, in fact, they halted a valid attack, I'm thankful. If not, hopefully I can get some feedback and find a solution with them.
On the plus side, NiftyStats was reporting very nice numbers for me... higher than I'm used to seeing (especially with G-Queen, my top converter). I also had a favorable sales day with DTI: a company I've focused more on lately. I would like to have seen a full days report without the hiccups.
Here's hoping tomorrow is a better one :D

Well Japteenz is back online so hopefully whatever the problem was has been resolved and you can get back to making those sales.

But what is "golf clap"?
Also isn't hostgator a really bad choice of hosting? I've never heard really good things about them, and they are really limited on bandwidth usage I thought
LOL. My "golf clap" was sarcasm at their having blocked my site while I was getting heavy gallery views via thehun.
So far, Hostgator hasn't been an issue up until this recent scenario. Nerrim and I are both on plans that allow us unlimited bandwidth, but perhaps there is some fine print (which I haven't seen), or cases such as this that might require a different hosting plan through them. I dunno...
If this same scenario repeats itself another time, I'll need to make some changes.

I've not had any problems with Hostgator (yet) The hosting package I've got claims unlimited bandwidth and space. Though there is a limit to the amount of files that can be stored in the space, the limit is 250,000 which isn't that bad really.
Though if anyone has any good host recommendations please post them in here.
One last thing in case anyones still wondering. A golf clap was originally just the quiet clap done by spectators at a golf tournament. Though it's more common meaning now is a slow clap used as a sarcastic gesture.
